Why a surveillance drive?
Desktop drives are not designed to write 24/7 from many cameras and wear out fast. Surveillance drives (Purple, SkyHawk) are built for it and reduce dropped frames.
How much capacity?
Roughly: four 2MP cameras recording continuously need about 1TB per two weeks (H.265). Motion-only recording stretches that a lot. Tell us cameras and retention and we will size it.
